Dinagyang Festival is an annual religious/cultural festival in Iloilo City, Philippines held on the fourth Sunday of January, or right after the Sinulog in Cebu and the Ati-Atihan in Aklan. It is held both to honor the Santo Niño and to celebrate the arrival on Panay of Malay settlers and the subsequent selling of the island to them by the Atis.

This year, the Iloilo City Goverment and the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. are gearing up for a more peaceful and “greener” celebration where 1 million people are expected to participate.

According Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, he wants the city to be free from thrash, as well as crime.

This year’s festival theme is “Beyond Awards: A Culture of Excellence.”

Amid issues of the so-called operation “Put the Little Girl to Sleep” and appeals for Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona to inhibit himself from the cases of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Solicitor General Joel Cadiz takes the ‘hot seat’ this Saturday (December 3) in “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda” to address issues concerning his office, the Department of Justice and the Aquino government.

Join King of Talk Boy Abunda and get to know the real status of the electoral sabotage case filed against the former President at his take on the recent statement of the Arroyo camp that the motives of President Aquino in going after CGMA are part of his political vendetta on the past SC ruling on the distribution of stocks of Hacienda Luisita.

What took them so long to file the electoral sabotage case against Arroyo? Is he in favor of house arrest? Can they really prove to the court that CGMA cheated in the 2007 elections?

With students from De La Salle University and Far Eastern University; and “bottomliners” Nini Borja, Mike Lopez, Dr.Denis Ngo, Gibby Gorres, Xiao Chua, Atty. Ernest Maceda, and Atty.Sal Panelo; witness how Cadiz answers tough questions concerning the hottest issues of the land in the 25th PMPC Star Awards for Television Best Public Affairs Program, “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda,” every Saturday night, 11:30pm, after “Banana Split” on ABS-CBN. Arroyo Mug Shot is Illegal According to Sen. Miriam

Arroyo mug shot was leaked and went viral in social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Arroyo Mug Shot

But according to Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, it’s illegal as the former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s right to privacy was violated when her mug shots were leaked by the authorities and even published by the media.

“When the mug shot of the accused is taken, could it be a violation of her personal right to privacy if this is published? The answer is yes,” Senator Santiago told reporters.

Sen. Santiago also questioned the newspaper and websites that published Arroyo’s mug shot.

“It is another question whether a newspaper or a website can publish a mug shot,” she said. “It is not a usual, common photograph. It already suggests guilt on the part of the person. What’s more is that it catches the individual at his most embarrassing moment.”

Senator Panfilo Lacson, on the other hand, has a different opinion regarding the mug shot.

“Lahat na mina-mug shot, pwedeng i-release anytime. That’s part of court records. Pag court records, that becomes public document,” he also told reporters on Tuesday.

The Philippine National Police (PNP), however, questions the authenticity of the mug shots that made its way to the internet. Chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome said there were discrepancies with the caption of the official mug shots and the published versions.

“I would like to state for the record that the published pictures are not the authentic mug shot photos of Rep. Gloria Arroyo,” Bartolome said in an interview by TV Patrol on Tuesday.

The PNP Chief likewise said that authorities are currently tracking down the source of the leaked photos.

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is currently under hospital arrest at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) filed charges against her for electoral sabotage over the weekend.

Ampatuan Massacre Victims to File Case Against Gloria Macapagal Arroyo

Ampatuan massacre victims, the relatives of the 57 people massacred in 2009 in Maguindanao, are suing former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo over the killings, which they claim she could have prevented, their lawyer said.

The Maguindanao Massacre, dubbed as the country’s worst politically motivated bloodbath and the worst single killing of journalists in the world (32 media workers dead), is now on its 2nd year tomorrow, November 23, and justice is still elusive to the victims’ relatives.

Two Arroyo allies, including former Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan Sr., are among about 100 suspects being tried on murder charges, and now they are about to file charges to the former President who has been arrested last week for electoral fraud.

Although Arroyo has condemned and denied any knowledge of the killings, lawyer Harry Roque believed she should have known that Ampatuan and his son were a danger.

“She not only funded and armed the Ampatuans but gave them the sense of influence. She could have prevented it. She knew about possible dangers,” he said.

The lawsuit is set to be filed today, November 22, seeking 15 million pesos in damages.
