Pinoy ‘Queen’ Film Wins in Berlinale

Congratulations to the cast and crew of “The Amazing Truth About Queen Raquela,” described by Variety as “about a Filipino lady-boy prostitute who fancies herself the true queen of France,” for winning the best feature Teddy at the Berlinale’s Teddy Queer Film Awards last Thursday, February 14, 2008.

Raquela Rios stars as herself in the feature co-produced by Arleen Cuevas and directed by Olaf de Fleur Johannesson.

Tirador Wins Calgari Film Prize

Brillante “Dante” Mendoza’s “Tirador” (“Slingshot”), bagged the Calgari Film prize, given by an association of theater owners and film distributors in Germany, at the recently concluded Berlinale International Film Festival.

“Tirador,” which competed in the Forum Section, also won a cash prize of 4,000 euros (P238,000), half of which is earmarked for the film’s distribution in Germany.
