A massive fire consumed and destroyed a number of buildings in the commercial district of Fire Islands Pines in Brookhaven on New York State’s Fire Island.
According to reports, around 20 fire departments have responded to the blaze which started around 9:15 pm and lasted for 2 hours.
Two popular night clubs–the Pavilion and LaFountaine-–were destroyed by the fire which was believed to have been driven by strong winds.
Fortunately, the fire hasn’t spread to any residences or rental properties. The cause of the fire was yet to be determined but authorities say it is not considered suspicious nor a hate crime since Fire Island Pines is known to for gay bars and vacation haven for homosexuals.
The Fire Island Pines, considered most expensive real estate on Fire Island, is a well-known summer beach community with about 700 homes in an area of about one square mile.
