Ben & Jerry’s new flavor called “Schweddy Balls” which got criticisms from One Million Moms weeks ago, flops in the market .
Ben & Jerry’s newest ice cream flavor “Schweddy Balls” was deemed offensive by the group One Million Moms which led to a campaign to boycott the product.
Stated on their website onemillionmoms.com:
“The vulgar new flavor has turned something as innocent as ice cream into something repulsive. Not exactly what you want a child asking for at the supermarket”
Here is the reason why the group dislikes the new flavor of Ben & Jerry’s:
The limited-edition ice cream flavor was inspired by a “Saturday Night Live” skit featuring Alec Baldwin as Pete Schweddy, owner of a holiday bakery called Season’s Eatings.
“There are lots of great treats this time of year,” Schweddy says. “Zucchini bread, fruitcake, but the thing I most like to bring out at this time of the year are my balls.”
On the other hand, Ben & Jerry’s spokesperson Sean Greenwood said that in the last three days, they only heard from about 600 moms – not a million – complaining about the new flavor. At the same time, the company has received hundreds more e-mails that say things like, “We love you guys.”
Greenwood reiterates that the Company didn’t name the ice cream that way for shock value but rather to appreciate a funny skit.
Consequently, the ice cream brand received cold shoulders from consumers and the limited-edition flavor is visibly absent in some supermarket chains.
