The Philippines bagged 5 trophies from the 54th New York Festivals, three of which are courtesy of GMA-7.
The Kapuso network bagged a Silver World Medal for “Biyaheng Totoo” (Real Journey) in the Special Report in News: Reports/Features category.
The cinematic version of the “Lupang Hinirang,” on the other hand, won for the network a Bronze World Medal in the Music Video category. The two-and-a-half-minute music video retells Philippine history through a succession of carefully-crafted and awe-inspiring reenactments of historical events from Lapu-Lapu’s victory over Magellan’s troops in the Battle of Mactan to the Filipinos’ peaceful revolt in pursuit of democracy in the 1986 People Power Revolution at EDSA.
Another Bronze award was given to GMA-7′s I-Witness: “Paraisong Uhaw” (A Parched Land) in the Social Issues/Current Events category under the Documentary/Information Program heading.
Aside from the 3 world medals, GMA-7 also received a finalist certificate for “Born To Be Wild: The Born Expeditions Finale” in the Nature & Wildlife category.
The New York Festivals® World’s Best Television & Films™ recognize the “World’s Best Work™” in news, sports, documentary, information and entertainment program as well as in music videos, infomercials, promotion spots, openings and IDs.
