Seven Filipino bands are set for the world stage after bagging one-year contracts with Apl.de.ap’s Jeepney Music in the recently concluded MTV Emerge.

The seven winners, namely DRP, Faircatch, Mid Nasty, The Pin-Up Girls, Soul Brothers, The Band Glenn, and Urbanation were chosen among 1,858 unsigned bands that uploaded their music entries on the MTV Emerge website. Aside from being the top-rated and most-voted entries, the winners were judged based on creativity, originality, and innovativeness of their lyrics and melody.

Providing an opportunity to local music talents to have their work discovered and recognized, MTV Emerge is a collaboration project of the Department of Tourism (DoT), MTV, and Jeepney Music.

Their one-year contracts with Jeepney Music include artist management and promotion, digital distribution of their songs, and a strategic marketing plan for them to break into both the local and international music scene.

“Jeepney Music serves as a vehicle for upcoming artists, Pinoy pride and Tourism, it’s my own little way of giving back to my kababayans who want to reach out to the world through their music and have a strong desire to represent the Filipinos around the world,” said Black Eyed Peas member and Jeepney Music founder, Allan Pineda Lindo famously known as Apl.de.ap.

MTV Emerge is part of the DoT’s and MTV’s joint effort to reach out to younger generations of world travelers, especially those who are drawn to the Philippines’ music culture. “Music is as part of the Philippines as our cultural heritage, there is just a perfect fit between MTV and the Philippines,” remarked Tourism Secretary Ace Durano on the partnership between MTV and DoT.

“We are very glad to have collaborated with Jeepney Music and DoT for MTV Emerge. I believe we had the right elements that made this project successful – people with real passion for music and an ingenious team that made this project another milestone for MTV,” agreed MTV SEA and Greater China’s Head of Content, Sari Trisulo.

Another component of the collaboration is the media roll out of the song and the music video “Take U to the Philippines” written by Apl.de.ap which showcases destinations in the Philippines, local flavors and cultural textures.
